My name is Jongho Lee, and I am a doctoral student and physical educator at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I am leading a research project, “Why Do People Pick Up Litter While Jogging? Exploring Ploggers’ Motivations and Experiences,” with my advisor and lab peer. We would like to request a research recruitment inquiry.
While plogging has gained currency in environmental as well as educational discourse globally, inquiry regarding this practice in the United States is still too limited. That said, the aim of this study is to explore ploggers’ motivations, perceived outcomes, and contextual factors impacting plogging among adult ploggers in the United States and to suggest implications for environmental/educational field.
If you choose to participate, you will engage in a semi-structured one-on-one interview which will take approximately 45 minutes. Participants will be asked to share their overall experiences engaging in plogging on a regular basis, including motivations when doing plogging, perceived outcomes or effects from those experiences, and influencing factors to plogging. With participants’ permission, the discussion will be audio recorded and transcribed for analysis. I have also attached a recruitment flyer for your reference.
Speaking of the condition that participants should have consistently plogged for the past 6 months can be interpreted more loosely. It’s more reasonable to take it as having had a long-term period of involvement, roughly around six months, at any point in time. Lastly, plogging includes picking up litter while only walking.
