With a mission of stewardship and education about the unique area of Tigertail Beach Park and Sand Dollar Spit, Friends of Tigertail hosted two events in March. The second and final “Breakfast and Birds” presentation of 2026 was enjoyed by an enthusiastic group on March 21.

Naturalist Fran Huxley reviewed characteristics of local bird species before the participants practiced identification techniques at the lagoon beach. Several wading birds entertained the group while avian adaptations, mangrove features, and migration routes rounded out the discussion. 44 volunteers came to the Bay Days/Great American Beach Clean-up at Tigertail on March 28.

In association with Collier County and Keep Collier Beautiful, Friends of Tigertail hosted the clean-up, where 94 pounds of debris and recyclable items were collected. County Commissioner Rick LoCastro participated, bringing in a 20 pound barnacle covered tire as well as additional trash.

The Collier County Health Department, Lely High School Junior Civitan students, adults, and families volunteered, collectively making the area much cleaner for beach enthusiasts and wildlife. The next quarterly clean-up will be on July 11. More information can be found on the Friends of Tigertail Facebook page or their website at www.FriendsofTigertail.com.
